What is the Gospel?

Do you know where you are going when you die?

This is the most important question any of us can ever answer. Many believe they are good people who will earn God's favor and get to heaven by their works. The truth is that no one is good (Romans 3:10). We are sinners and God is perfectly holy (Isaiah 6:3). Our situation is hopeless if we were left to ourselves. The only way we can be saved and have true peace with God is if God acts and makes the way for salvation for us.

The good news is that this way does exist! Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life, and salvation is only through Him (John 14:6).

This is good news, and the heart of the good news (or "gospel") is this: God saves sinners for His glory.

Please read the gospel message below--it is the most important news you will ever hear. Today, turn to Christ and live!

The gospel of Jesus Christ:

God is holy.
He is completely pure, set apart, and perfect in all His ways. There is no sin in Him at all.

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” (Isaiah 6:3)

He made you in His image and for His glory.
You were created to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27)
“…everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” (Isaiah 43:7)

But we have sinned against Him by breaking His law.
Instead of loving God and living for Him, we’ve rebelled against Him. Every lie, selfish thought, and act of pride is an act of treason against our Maker.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
“Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.” (1 John 3:4)

Because we’ve sinned against an infinitely holy God, we deserve eternal punishment in hell.
God is just and He cannot overlook sin.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
“They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might.” (2 Thessalonians 1:9)

But the good news is this!

God, in His great love, sent His Son, Jesus Christ—truly God and truly man.
He entered our broken world to rescue sinners like you and me.

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Jesus was without sin, obeyed God perfectly, and died on the cross--bearing our sins in His body.
He took on the punishment we deserved.

“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God.” (1 Peter 3:18)

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” (1 Peter 2:24)

“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)

On the third day, He rose from the dead, conquering sin and death.
He proved He is who He claimed to be: the Son of God and the Savior-King.

“…that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.” (1 Corinthians 15:4)
“I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.” (Revelation 1:18)

Jesus now reigns as King over all things. His kingdom is coming from heaven to earth.
One day every knee will bow before Him.

“And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.’” (Matthew 28:18)
“…so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.”(Philippians 2:10)

The call on your life is to turn from your sin and trust in Jesus Christ alone.
When you do, God forgives your sins, adopts you as His child, and gives you eternal life.

“Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.” (Acts 3:19)
“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12)

Will you turn to Christ and live?
This is the most important decision of your life.

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” (John 5:24)
“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” (John 3:36)
